Modify your RV to make it more like the 2011 models
NEW-Lower Shipping Costs -$4
Problem: The screen door design on most RV units requires one to slide open a slide panel to access the screen door latch from inside the camper. For small children and guests, this is awkward and requires the slider panel to be reclosed to keep the RV bugproof. Closing the slider panel is difficult on a swinging door and causes an unsafe situtation, especially for children.
Solution: Install the Steele Engineering screen door handle kit in the slider panel. The kit provides a screen door release on the inside of the slider panel which actuates the factory latch release on the outside of the slider panel. The installed handle looks like a door handle to most people and guests adapt to it quickly. During screen door mode (solid door latched open), the slider panel can remain closed. During solid door mode the slider panel can remain open. The kit does not interfere with any of the other door functions. Check out the photos to see the installed handle and the videos of our grandaughter's demonstration.
The RV industry has finally decided to include this feature in the 2011 models. The new design consists of a sliding knob on the slider panel. This is a nice design and is long overdue. If you have an older model RV, you can upgrade your door with my handle. Another option is to go for a new RV.

Over 200 satisfied owners (and a few old grouches) on our owners map.
(The Google map maxed out at 200 points. There are now over 400 locations.)
Installation: The installation of the kit requires drilling a 5/8 inch diameter hole in the appropriate location in the panel and enlarging the hole to a 5/8 inch square shape. This can be accomplished with a sharp knife or a Dremel tool. The handle is then fastened in place with a clamp nut. More detailed instructions and a template are included with the kit. If you can drill a hole in plastic, you can install this kit. Total installation time is less than 10 minutes.
Application: The kit is compatible with most travel trailers and fifth wheels. If the standard handle will not fit, I will supply you with a handle that will fit at no additional charge to you. If your sliding panel is a flat piece of plastic, please contact me before ordering. Will not fit doors on trailer road side.
The pictures show the standard handle mounted on a Philips slider panel with a one inch offset.
Price: $15 plus $4 S&H. I will ship multiple units for the same shipping charge.
